So…someone has contacted you about hosting a FaVoRS event….What is expected?
FaVoRS is a family volunteer group that meets as a group on Sunday afternoons in an effort to provide family volunteer opportunities. Through these activities, we hope to promote volunteerism, learn about our community, and teach our children social responsibility…All while helping YOU get something done for your organization.
Our member families are required to each “host” a volunteer event. First and foremost, be patient with us — we are volunteers and are often NEW to this.
Our parameters for events are the following:
– Events must be appropriate for families…the member families have children of all ages — generally with children under 15 years old. Parents attend the events WITH their kids though, and are on hand to supervise as well as getting their own hands dirty. That said, activities can run the range of difficulty as parents can help kids to get things done.
– Projects should be hands-on. No fundraising, no request for collections. We can clean, organize, paint, visit with patients, decorate, clear trails, pick up trash, and generally help with anything you don’t want to do!
– Events should be kept to a 1-2 hour time block. Generally, we try for 1-3pm on Sundays.
– We usually get 5-6 families at each event. So, the group will often be 15-20 people.
– Often people ask if they can provide cookies or drinks….we request that no snacks are served at the event so that the kids are not distracted and so that we don’t make a mess at your site!
That’s it — use us to help you. Introduce a group of new supporters to your organization, and get something off of your own organizational “To Do” List!
