Reminder!

This Sunday, May 4th, Favors will be held at the gorgeous Mianus River Gorge.  We will be raking (BYO rakes and gloves if you have them) and clearing some new land and then seeding the area to help reclaim and regrow! We will meet at the Gorge parking lot at 1 PM.  Mianus River Gorge Preserve, 167 Mianus River Road, Bedford, NY 10506, 914-234-3455, www.mianus.org

PLEASE RSVP so we know who is coming.

Mianus River Gorge — May 5th

Join the McKenney Family on May 5th from 1-3pm at Mianus River Gorge.

The Gorge recently purchased 19 acres of land in Bedford, NY and they need a work crew to do some “spring cleaning” on the property.  Specifically, we will be preparing an area for planting. We will meet at the Gorge parking lot at 1 PM. Please bring work gloves if you have them.

Westchester Land Trust Thanks

Great project last weekend for the Westchester Land Trust.  Sounds like everyone had fun working on the mushroom growing project and garden prep.  Thanks to the Fergusons for hosting and to Mary Duncan for the fun photos.

Reminder for Sunday, April 14th

Just to recap, on Sunday we’ll be preparing the perennial beds in Westchester Land Trust’s “giving garden” and planting currants/elderberry, sunchokes, and rhubarb.  We’ll also be setting up an area to grow mushrooms, which will involve drilling and arranging hardwood logs (with supervision of course).

We’ll have work gloves, but they’ll be sized for adult hands – please bring child-sized ones if you have them.  Also, be sure to dress so that you don’t mind getting dirty – and if it’s sunny, a hat & sunscreen is advised!  We will have access to the house for bathrooms, washing up, etc.

Looking forward to seeing everyone at Sugar Hill Farm on Sunday afternoon!  Please RSVP soon so we know how many to expect.

April 14th — Westchester Land Trust Garden

Please join the Ferguson family on Sunday, April 14th from 1-3pm at Sugar Hill Farm – the Westchester Land Trust’s headquarters – as we help expand their “giving garden”.  We’ll be planting several perennial fruits and vegetables that will supply the Food Bank for Westchester with much needed fresh produce for area food pantries and soup kitchens.  Over 1,500 pounds of veggies were donated in 2012 and with this expansion 2013 should be even more successful!

A great project for the entire family – please RSVP if you can help.  Sugar Hill Farm is located at 403 Harris Road in Bedford Hills.

** Please note the date change, as the other two dates in April were not taken (the second date being on the Leatherman Race date which many of our members run…I decided to just do one date in April)

March Reminders

Remember to RSVP for the event this Sunday at AFYA so the Shevicks can let them know how many will be in our group.  Make sure you note the time — starts at 10am.  Jenny Shevick’s contact info is as follows in case anyone needs to find her that day: 917.873.8735, jennyshevick@yahoo.com.

Also, we still have dates open for Spring events and need hosts to sign up.  March 24th (as if), April 21st, May 19th, and June 2nd are all still in need of being adopted.  Let me know if you can fill in with an event!

AFYA event — March 10th

Please join the Shevick family on March 10th from 10:00 am – 1:00 pm to help AFYA, an organization that has sent $25,000,000 worth of supplies abroad to people in need. On the 10th, we and other volunteers will be sorting medical supplies to send to Haiti. Donations of hand sanitizers to add to the packages would be greatly appreciated!

We will work at the AFYA warehouse at 140 Saw Mill River Road, Yonkers, NY 10701.  ** Please note the TIME — we will be joining a larger group sorting effort from 10am to 1pm, so not our usual time frame.  Please come for as little or as long as you can.  Please RSVP.

Pound Ridge Seniors Thanks

Thanks to the Durfees for hosting last weekend.  We made some cheerful and very crafty centerpieces for the Pound Ridge Seniors St Patty’s Day luncheon.  It was really nice to be able to just sit around and chat with all of the Favors families and I really enjoyed the laid back tone of the day.  It just reminded me how I like EVERY Favors event — whether we are outside together sweating and working with our hands, helping and playing with sick kids, or simply putting together some paper flowers — it doesn’t matter.  It’s a few hours spent doing something for someone else, hanging out with my family, and being ourselves in our community.  I love the parents and kids who show up for these events and just feel so happy to be part of a group like this.  Anyway, off the soap box for now — just thanks for being you and being part of this group, whether you find the time to come once a year or many times — I still love what we’re doing and want to keep it moving forward.  ‘Nuff said.

RSVP Reminder

Just a little reminder that the Durfees are hosting an event this Sunday, February 24th at 1:30pm.  We will be making centerpieces for the Pound Ridge Seniors Association — which will be used at their annual St Patty’s Day luncheon.  RSVP when you get a chance so the Durfees know what amount of supplies they should get.
