First Favor Comin’ Up!

On September 16th, from 1-3pm, we will be working with the Westchester Land Trust at their office site.

Here’s the project description from WLT:

We have embarked on an effort toward making Sugar Hill Farm an example of things homeowners can do to manage their landscapes in a more naturalistic and environmentally sensitive way.  We will work to protect young conifer seedlings from deer so the cedars and other young trees will survive the winter and eventually grow to become an important feature in our meadow, we’ll collect seed heads of a variety of grasses for storage through the winter and planting next spring to provide food for sparrows and other seed-eating birds, and if we have a family or two dressed for a mess, we’ll harvest fruit from pokeweed (a vitally important food plant for butterflies and other wildlife) and run the berries through a blender to clean the seeds for planting. (Otherwise, the seeds are only available for growing into new plants if they have first passed through the digestive system of a bird or other animal.)

Hope to see you all there for a great back-to-fall Favors session!  Please RSVP NOW so we can plan how much we will be able to get done.  And if you want to bring a friend — let us know, we’d be open to some new interest!

Thanks,

Gretchen, Pete, Tucker and Brody

Projects Available

Two local non-profits would like to have the group come to help this fall.  Projects are up for grabs to any family that wants to head them — first email back gets the project just handed to them!

Westchester Land Trust — September 16th — they need us to come and harvest pods for later planting and to build deer protection around a few seedling trees on the property.  Maybe some work in their on-site garden as well.

SPCA in Briarcliff Manor would like our help.  September 30th event date, project TBD between staff and family in charge.

Let me know if anyone is interested in heading one of these projects and I will put you in touch with the staff member in charge to work out the details!

Happy Labor Day…then focus…

Many of you are still living the vacation dream and dragging the last few days of summer out — so, when you get back and into the swing of your fall schedule, please email me with the Favors date you want to claim as your very own.  Lots of dates (well, all except October 14th — thank you to the Shevick Family for being AWESOME) are still available for the fall and ready for you…and I emailed a bunch of non-profits this morning to see about any interest, so will post if I have any ideas come out of that too!  Looking forward to another great year.

FaVoRS?!

In the heat of the summer and during the joy of vacations, it has been hard to think about plans for the fall…but, as it might sneak up on us shortly – I wanted to check in to see about engagement in Favors for the fall.  The Menzies are hoping that your families will still be interested and ready for projects come September — but understand that schedules and reality are sometimes different — please feel free to email if you would like to be taken off of the list — OR if you are still interested, email with a date you want to claim as your very own.

Available dates are the following:

September 16, 30
October 14, 28
November 11
December 2, 16
January 13, 27
February 10, 24
March 10, 24
April 7, 21
May 5, 19
June 2

If you need a hand thinking of a project, just ask (I may have a contact or two for the fall if anyone wants one) or we can just brain storm.  Hope you can join us for another great year — and if you know any more interested families, we are always open to adding more faces.

Enjoy the rest of your summer (right after you reply of course)!

Best,

Gretchen, Pete, Tucker and Brody

Pool Party Details

This Sunday, June 17th will be the last official gathering of the Favors group before the fall.  Join us for swimming, early dinner and running around from 3pm on.  Bring bathing suits, towels, goggles, baseball mitts, etc etc — anything the kids might think is fun.  We will have tons of good food — if anyone feels the NEED to bring something, drinks for kids, small amounts of dessert or father’s day fun items are welcome.  Come casual and ready to just relax!

Pool Party & Fall Dates!

Next up Pool Party — June 17th!  Looking forward to celebrating a fantastic year of Favors with all of you, sitting by the pool, and just hanging out.  Hope for good weather!  If anyone MUST bring something, bring a small dessert, but please don’t everyone feel like you need to — we will have TONS of good food — just come relax.  Folks are welcome any time after 3pm, very casual, bring a suit and towel!  If you haven’t let me know yet if you are available, feel free to RSVP on the events page.

Fall date sign up in the meantime?  I have added the upcoming year’s event options to the calendar and welcome anyone who wants to pick a date.  Just email me your preference and I will reserve dates for folks.  I even already have an interested non-profit for the fall…first to ask gets the assignment :)

Rosary Hill Senior Event

Thanks for joining in on the music playing, ice cream eating, senior visiting time at Rosary Hill Home.  I am sure that you all brought some smiles to people who might not see different faces that often.

And that’s all folks!

Today’s Event FYI

For anyone attending the event today — I believe there MAY be a piano and Tucker may bring his guitar — for any INTERESTED kids, we may have the option of playing music for the patients.  Nothing formal, just might be nice in the background, so if anyone wants to bring music or step up and play, they can.  Always a nice background and ice breaker!  Bring music if you think you might want it.  Also, just as an FYI so no one is surprised — the facility is run by nuns and monks who I believe may wear traditional apparel — if your kids, like mine, might not have seen that — it may be worth a word before you arrive :)   Looking forward to seeing everyone later for the last event of the favors official season!  If you didn’t think you could come, but can — feel free to join, I don’t think numbers are a bit deal!
