Blythedale Favors

As always it was amazing to be with the kids at Blythedale Hospital.  Their energy and cheer in the face of obvious adversity is refreshing to see.  The kids are amazing in the way they jump in and greet our kids, often so happy to see people who want to spend time with them, and really enjoy the activities and fun of our group.  Our favors kids make me proud and I love to see them playing with, giving love, and making smiles and treats for all of the patients.  A special thanks to the Duncan-Gutfreunds for making this activity an option for us year after year and for putting together the cookies and decorations and Valentine’s Cards, etc, etc.  A treat in every way!

Below are some highlights — we aren’t allowed to photograph the kids, so you’ll just have to use your imagination and tolerate my artsy take on the event instead.

Weekend Update

Hi all -
As with every other organization in Westchester, here’s our update on plans for the weekend.  Mary and I are optimistic that the snow will eventually end and that roads may be clear for Sunday afternoon, so we are tentatively saying that the event at Blythedale Sunday will still happen.  We will email Sunday morning if there are changes to that plan, so please check before you head out.  Otherwise, look forward to making some snowed-in kids happy (probably ours who will have been home-bound for a few days by then).
Best,
Gretchen

Updates

Great team effort last weekend to send LOTS of bright and cheerful cards to the troops overseas thanking them for their efforts.

Our next event will be on February 10th at Blythedale Hospital.  Please RSVP soon — the event is a wonderful one and we often get a lot of attendees, so please let us know if you are going to be there so we can get enough supplies.

Thanks from Northern Westchester Hospital

Thanks for the help last Sunday at Northern Westchester Hospital — we made 48 goody bags and a multitude of get well cards.  All will be happily welcomed by the kids on the pediatric floor of the hospital (or in the emergency room).

January 27, 2013, Give2TheTroops

Once again, with the assistance of Give2TheTroops, we will be creating and sending cards to our troops overseas.  These notes from home are so meaningful to our soldiers.  So bring your creative spirit, as well as any old cell phones you may have laying around (any model, any age). Donations go to help defray postage costs.

Give2TheTroops® is a 501 (c) 3, tax-exempt, non-profit organization that sends care packages and letters to our deployed and wounded military troops in combat zones. They are non-political and support all branches of the service.  Founded in December of 2002, by a U.S. Marine wife, the organization has grown to branches in several states.  Since 2002, G2TT has sent more than 178,000 large boxes (averaging 65 pounds each) to more than one million American military troops deployed in combat and disaster relief zones.

Location: The Gerkens, 64 The Farms Road, Bedford.  Time: 1-3pm.  Please RSVP!!!

2013 is coming!

Time to sign up for winter and spring events!  Check out the calendar and let me know what dates work for you.  At the moment, we have a lot of dates open and in need of hosts!

Valentine’s Day at Northern Westchester Hospital

January 13, 2013, 1-3 p.m. Northern Westchester Hospital, Mt Kisco.

Bring your kids, bring your friends and come decorate and make goodie bags for the kids at the hospital.  We will be stuffing Valentine’s Day goody bags for the pediatric patients at the hospital.  The event will be held in a conference room and will entail adding small games, toys, etc to bags for the kids.  Your family can also help to decorate the bags or write get well messages to the patients.  Older kids may be able to help decorate the pediatric floor.
